As you can tell, the bracketing of the tournament was messed up. There are several reasons for this. Sting & Ronnie Garvin were entered as a team in the tournament. However, Garvin was injured by Kevin Sullivan while trying to help Jimmy Garvin. Luger & Barry Windham were scheduled to compete as a team. However, Windham turned on Luger and joined the Four Horsemen. Therefore, Sting & Luger became partners. Dusty Rhodes & Nikita Koloff were to compete as a team. Rhodes was suspended and Koloff was given the NWA World Title match with champion Ric Flair. These factors explain why there were only 22 teams in the tournament. Nobody is quite sure what happened to the Sheepherders. They won their first round match. They beat Horner & Armstrong in the second round. They then lost to the Midnight Express, also in the second round. |
